The Story Behind Old Lady Gains

I thought I’d take a minute and share with you the story behind why I started Old Lady Gains. 

Like any good story, it starts with “This one time at band camp...”. 

Just kidding. 

It started in the Fall of 2017 when my workout bestie, Jaime and I entered a partner CrossFit competition in the Masters Female Division. Of course we were going to need matching tank tops. The problem was we couldn’t find anything that was geared towards female athletes over the age of 35. There were several options for me, but nothing for women. 

So, we decided that we were just going to have to make one. I have some below average Photoshop skills and Jaime had an idea in her head. Together, we came up with the original design (see below) and had 2 tank tops made at Custom Ink for waaaay too much money. After showing off our new tanks on social media, I started getting it up by other ladies wanting one of the tops. I was shocked people actually liked it. So, I ordered 20 more tops and sold them just to friends. They were all gone within two weeks. Got another 20 tops. Gone.

After putting together a second design, it was clear that I was on something. Even now after three years, we are still the ONLY online brand solely dedicated to designing empowering shirts to women over 35 years old. I can’t tell you how proud I am of that. For me, it’s not about making a ton of money by expanding the demographic. It’s about staying true to why we started in the first place. I am proud to be a Master Female Athlete offering apparel to Master Female Athletes.
