Meet Dianna Floyd

In this week's edition of "Women You Should Meet", we introduce you to 51 year old grandma of two, Dianna Floyd from Statesboro, GA.

How old are you?  I will be 51 years old on April 16 of this year.

When you started your fitness journey? I was 30 when I started running. Just local 5ks. Then 10ks. Then half marathons.

Why CrossFit, why not something else? I had injuries that keep me from running distance. That is how I found CrossFit. CF is (to me) the perfect activity for a person of my age. Cardio and weights! It is the perfect balance!

What is your most vivid memory during your fitness journey? While I was training for the Maui Marathon. I got a stress fracture in my foot. I was devastated. The doctor told me that I probably would not be able to do the marathon. I swam to keep up my cardio. Along with multiple steroid treatments. In Maui ran about 10 miles and re-broke my foot. It hurt so horribly that I threw up several times. I called for someone to come and get me. My friend that I was running with said something that kinda made me who I am today. She said "if you quit. You will never forgive yourself". So I limped the last 6 miles crying the entire way. But, I finished. I swore I would never run another marathon. I ran 2 more.

Who inspires you? Amanda Allen,  Elizabeth Akinwale, Shellie Edington. I love strong women. My endurance trainer Christina Gibson is a very big influence in my life too. I know it sounds silly but, my daughter in law. She does an amazing job as a mom, wife and career woman.

What do you want to accomplish next?  I do set fitness goals. I would love to make the qualifier 2019. I am working really hard at getting a ring muscle-up. I am working 4 days a week on technique.

What movement do you struggle with the most? Wallballs! They are in my head. I hate them. They are and will always be my kryptonite. (19.1 was my worst case scenario)

When you feel your struggling with a workout....what is the self-talk you use to get through it? I don't quit. It is not in my DNA!  I often have to remember who is watching. I don't  like to disappoint people. So, just keep going.

What’s your favorite workout? I love Murph. It is so hard! It is also very emotional as well. It destroys me for a week.  But, 100% worth it!

Favorite jams to work out to? 90's rap! I love Ludacris, Lil Jon, Lil Wayne, Tupac, Biggie...oh you old lady!!!  (They laugh at me & I don't care)

What does being physically strong mean to you? 1. I want to be able to keep up with my grandchildren. 2. I love being able to be up towards the top on the whiteboard! I live in a college town. So to be able to somewhat keep up with the babies...kicks ass!

What have you learned about yourself? I have learned several things. 1. It is ok to fail as long as you learn from it. 2. There is always someone watching you and looking up to you. 3. I am a way better partner than an individual athlete.

What advice do you have for other females over 35 looking to get started? Do it! Don't wait! I have always said we have goals for our children. But, you need to have a goal for yourself. What better way than to move! Also it is 100% true that abs are made in the kitchen and not in the gym!
